Fall is coming. Any day now. I can see it in the way the sunlight dapples down through the Oaks & Pecan trees on my block. It is always autumn’s first harbinger for me, the shadow play lets me know that soon…..maybe not soon enough…but soon, the heat will give us a break, & I start to get a little high spirited. Come August, it’s so hot here in the Gulf States, & I’ve never really minded much, except in this time, when the light starts to change, it’s like I’ve had enough already….let’s put on a fall. Winter, not so much….I really LOVE the accessories, but I don’t like being COLD. Just fall, sweaters & scarves, yard work, longer than usual early morning walks with my Golden Doodle boy. It’s harder to stay focused in the studio, but perfect artisan-made-chunky-ceramic-bowls-of really-good-soup-days. Split pea, black bean, yummy home made veggie with a crusty bit of bread (& of course, BUTTER!)….Mmmmmmmm.
It’s also when I get to tease out the ideas for new work that have been brewing in the back of my mind for awhile. Playing in the mud, with no real boundaries, no reason not to just go for it. I am constantly jotting down ideas, doing sketches, inspired by everyday sights & sounds. I got behind this year, with the latest transfer (my husband’s “real” job), so I may have more ideas that need unleashing than in years past. I also have had record gallery orders for the summer, which, while it’s kept me scrambling to keep up, is always a welcome bonus. My shows this fall are all in Texas: Richardson, Houston, Dallas & Fort Worth. All good shows, too. I look forward to seeing artists we’ve met these past few years of doing shows, some we have become really close with. And meeting new artists, seeing the kind of art that makes my pulse practically stop as my breathing deepens, my heart fills & the outside world seems to dissolve around me for a few seconds (I am sure I’ve mentioned my touch of Stendahl Syndrome). I anticipate doing one amazing barter at my fall show line-up….a new piece of fun art for our already artFULL home!
HAPPY FALL everyone! Blue skies & dappled sunshine!
